Uneducated Guesses About the 2014 MLB Playoffs: Division Series

You may recall the time that I attempted to predict the 2013 NFL Playoffs. I can’t do that here. I know some players, but I really haven’t watched enough baseball to even sound like I have any idea of what I’m talking about. And considering that I should have posted this Monday, I’m definitely late. But before I get to my 110% guaranteed guesses*, I have to say one thing:

The Wild Card Game is some scary $%^# right? Teams used to have a cushy, 7 game series if they won the Wild Card. Now winning the Wild Card doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that you may get to play 163 games that year. I like it. And I don’t care if this is the third year of the Wild Card Game, the people need to know what I think!

American League

#1 Los Angeles Angels v. #4 Kansas City Royals: I don’t like the Angels. They think they’re the new Yankees or something. And I really like the feel good story of the Royals getting into the playoffs for the first time since I was 2. Royals in 5.

#2 Baltimore Orioles v. #3 Detroit Tigers: I personally feel like the Tigers are choke artists in the postseason in recent years. And that Baltimore team is no slouch. Orioles in 4.

National League

#1 Washington Nationals v #5 San Francisco Giants: The Nationals fought hard for the #1 seed in the NL. But they’re playing the 2010 and 2012 World Series Champions. Not yet Nats. Giants in 5.

#2 Los Angeles Dodgers v #3 St. Louis Cardinals: The Dodgers are the Clippers of the baseball world when it comes to postseason success since 1988, at least compared to their LA counterparts (the Angels won it all in 2002). I think their luck is changing though thanks to one word: Kershaw. Dodgers in 5.

* – DO NOT TRUST MY GUESSES.

Picks have been edited to reflect that the ALCS & the NLCS are both 5 games long, not 7.
